Training is a planned and systematic practice to modify or develop knowledge, skill and attitude. Through training practice effective performance in an activity or range of activities can be achieved. Further the rapid change in technology and rapid growth of industries enforce to bridge the gap between the present skill & skill required by the industries.

Keeping in view of the above facts, Government Industrial Training Institute, Barbil, one of the oldest and premier institution in Odisha established in the year of 1964, is imparting training in northern part of the state and different trades have been introduced from time to time considering the need of industries.

The institute is directly under the administrative control of the Directorate of Technical Education &Training ,Odisha , Skill Development & Technical Education Department ,Govt. of Odisha. The syllabus & certification is controlled by DGE&T /NCVT ,Govt. of India. For better participation of Industry ,the Institution Management Committee (IMC) has been formed with representatives from industry under the Chairmanship of the head of the Jindal Steel & Power Ltd., Barbil. The training and infrastructure is guided by the IMC.
